The first installment in the Mission: Impossible film franchise gets the series off to a solid start. Sometimes the plot is overly complex and the dialogue dull, but the action is tense and thrilling. Compared to newer installments, this one is weaker, but not the weakest. Tom Cruise fits the main role perfectly and gives the character good charm to make him likable enough to cheer for. The story can make you feel like a spy, but maybe not to the levels of Jason Bourne or James Bond. The climax of the film feels a bit more out of control than the rest of the film and a little over the top, but it remains thrilling. This film is a must-see movie for action movie fans, especially ones that like the spy sub-genre. This film is neither great nor awful, it is a middling action flick with some thrills and some yawns. Overall, I give this film a 7/10.
