No. 11: Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace

After 1983's "Return of the Jedi", audiences had to wait until 1999 for "The Phantom Menace" to see the origins of Darth Vader and the fall of the Jedi Order. What did we get? Jake Lloyd as Anakin Skywalker, Jar Jar Binks, and too much pod-racing. Unlike "Attack of the Clones" however, "The Phantom Menace" does have some upside. Darth Maul, John William's score, and Liam Neeson barely save this film from being the worst film. However it isn't by much. 

No. 10: Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones

The second of the prequel films falls flat in a lot of ways. George Lucas relies too heavily on early 2000s CGI in the prequels, which compared to today's CGI abilities was not a good idea. The chemistry between Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen is nonexistent.  Ewan McGregor does a good job as Obi-Wan Kenobi, but even his acting can't save a dull political story with action that is not up to par with other Star Wars installments.

No. 9: Star Wars VIII: The Last Jedi

The newest installment in the saga divided audiences unlike any movie before it. It has beautiful cinematography and visual effects, but this does not allow a pass for what the film lacks in many other areas. "The Last Jedi" takes what was laid out in "The Force Awakens" and throws most of it away. Granted this film does a great job of not becoming a remake of "Empire Strikes Back", but even with the more original story, the film falls flat where it should excel. The climax of the movie is anti-climatic, and doesn't justify the previous 2 hours and 20 minutes of buildup.

No. 8. Solo: A Star Wars Story

"Solo: A Star Wars Story" went through several roadblocks to finally get to the final product. And for the adversary the filmmakers faced, the finished product is good. There are moments of fun and adventure, but ultimately "Solo" doesn't ever shift into light speed. ​

No. 7: Star Wars IX: The Rise of Skywalker

The end of the saga answers some sequel trilogy questions, but leaves more unanswered. The movie rushes through everything leaving little time for the audience to catch their breath and regroup. Overall, the sequel trilogy as a whole just feels unnecessary. There are good action sequences and the effects are fantastic. The dialogue is not great, but for a "popcorn flick" it does it's job. Shut your brain off and enjoy a sugar rush of action and loud noises.

No. 6: Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

By far the best prequel film, although that does not mean very much. This film's effects have dated a bit, but it is the best animation the prequels have to offer. After stumbling through the first two prequels, we finally get to see the fall of Anakin and his becoming of Darth Vader. This movie does creates a few saga inconsistencies with it's compacted ending. The script is not too well written, and some of the acting is subpar. On the other hand though, Ewan McGregor does fantastic and it is rewarding to see how the Empire is born. This also contains some of the best choreographed fight scenes in the series.

No. 5: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

This film is not part of the actual Saga of Star Wars, but it still enhances the story with its story of how the Rebellion was able to steal the plans for the Death Star. Sure, it may be the biggest project to explain a single plot hole in cinema history, but it comes with some great payoffs. Although some of the acting feels forced and it's difficult to feel sympathetic for the characters, this film's story is decent enough to let those faults slide. Again the cinematography in this newer Star Wars is well done. The last two minutes could possibly be the most epic two minutes in the entire series.

No. 4: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

This film could be renamed "A New Hope Again" as it takes the 1977 classic's script and changes very few things. The story for the most part is very unoriginal. The effects and acting are very good though. This is not a great film, nor is it a horrible film. It's spectacle is phenomenal, and it is heartwarming to see the beloved characters from the originals.

No. 3: Star Wars Episode VI: The Return of the Jedi

The two previous film in this trilogy are all-time greats, so "The Return of the Jedi" had a lot to measure up to. It does a respectable job of closing out the original trilogy, even with its flaws. The action scenes are some of the best of the series, and the reward of seeing Luke as a Jedi Knight is a very rewarding payoff. Some dialogue is shallow, and as a standalone film, this is the weakest of the originals but still a very enjoyable watch.

No. 2: Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

This is a timeless tale. George Lucas' space drama gets realized in this 1977 classic, and even 41 years after it's release this is a film you can watch multiple times and never get bored. Luke's character develops from a farm boy into a rebel fighter trained to use the force. The use of dialogue and sets make this film able to stand the test of time admirably well.

No. 1: Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

The heroes we have grown to love struggle to stand firm against the Empire in this one. The darkest film in the original trilogy, "The Empire Strikes Back" builds on the premises of its predecessor and manages to make one of the greatest films ever made. A compelling story and strong acting make this a great fun adventure.
