Power Rangers is a decent attempt of giving the action figures and campy TV show a modern makeover. However, it struggles to accomplish that goal. The effects, for the most part look nice with only a few moments where they aren't so good. The acting and writing are both hit and miss in this one. Some moments are fun and well acted, while for the most part, they are subpar. Elizabeth Banks brings the creepiness out of the villain, Rita, very well and is one of the better portrayed elements in the film. The story of the teenagers feels lightly like "The Breakfast Club" but isn't handled as delicately. This is mainly in part because the characters are all flat and never get developed on a deeper level. The action in the film can be fun, but it definitely falls short of the many other superhero films that are on the market. This has the feel of a children's superhero movie trying to be more mature. It has fun moments, but the execution is mostly subpar. Overall, I give this film a 5/10.
