"Return of the Jedi" concludes the original trilogy in grand fashion, however it is not without its flaws. The two preceding films are all-time great movies, so this film has/had a lot to live up to and for the most part it lives up to its expectations. The first act that takes place at Jabba's palace is fun and exciting. The second part of the film slows down as all the pieces get set for the climax (Han and Leia on the planet moon of Endor with Ewoks, Luke leaving his friends to confront Darth Vader, and the Rebels preparing for a space assault on the New Death Star). There are still some great action sequences in this part of the movie like the speeder chase, but it is mostly set up. The last third of the movie is the battle to finally defeat the Empire. The space battle is fun but not as good as "A New Hope." The Han and Leia led assault on the Death Star generators is great up until the Ewoks join, and then it just feels too childlike. teddy bears defeating trained stormtroopers is just not as mature of a climax as the previous films. I wish it had been Wookiees, that would have been awesome. however, even though much of the climax leaves a bit to be desired the duel between Luke and Vader is amazing and emotional. The music to this whole movie is fantastic as is the common theme throughout all of Star Wars. The acting is good. Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford are all great in this installment. It is well-directed and well-written. The dialogue for the most part is good. There are some cliche lines said, but for the most part the dialogue is solid. The different setting this movie has are great. This is a very fun movie and it closes out the original trilogy very well. Overall, I give this movie an 8/10.
