"The Shawshank Redemption" is an absolute great movie. The acting is top-notch and the story is phenomenal. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman play the two leads perfectly. Frank Darabont adapted Stephen King's short novel, "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" perfectly. Not only did he adapt the book to a screenplay, he also directed the film. The directing is very good also. Everything comes together smoothly and makes this movie great and extremely memorable. The dialogue is some of the best on film. There are several quotable lines but more importantly the dialogue drives the plot forward. The use of narrating in this movie is done with great effect. The narration adds a deeper element to the story and to Freeman's character (who does most of the narrating). The emotion and inspirational moments that culminate in this film effectively influence the viewer's feelings in many diverse ways. We feel the character's struggles and triumphs which make this film a rewarding experience. The depth to the characters is very good and allows us to be able to connect with them. The cinematography is done tastefully and enhances the movie. There is really nothing to hate about this movie. It is a very well-crafted piece of cinema and is one of the best films ever. Overall, I give this movie a 10/10.
