Making a movie about a real serial killer is no easy task. These are real people, and their victims are real people with family members. At the same time, this is not supposed to be a documentary and people want to see a movie, so cinematic elements need to be present. It is a difficult task to pull this off when the main character is such a horrific person, are we supposed to feel sympathy for them? Are they meant to be portrayed as some sort of hero? If so, that is pretty tasteless. "Ted Bundy" shows serial killer, Ted Bundy, go from one grisly act to another all while trying to maintain some semblance of a normal life. This movie doesn't dive deep into Bundy's psyche, which is too bad. It really just shows that he knew how to manipulate and charm people. It doesn't establish his motivation into why he kills his victims, rather this movie seems to be aiming a lot more at shock value than it is a deep analysis into the life of a serial killer. It definitely doesn't hold back very much from the violence and blood. I just think with these type of movies there needs to be a balance between showing the act and reasons behind why the act happened. We see the violent acts a lot here, but not much of reasons as to why. We can puzzle together that it is because he wants to be in control and he's a sociopath, but there has got to be more to it than that. The plot moves along at a decent enough clip. It is fairly accurate to the real story, and the end is mostly satisfying. Michael Reilley Burke does a good job of playing Bundy, he has the charm to pull it off and is also able to be nasty when need be. However, I do think there are a few moments where he is a bit over the top. The acting from several others is mediocre at best. The film portrays women in a very bad light. It makes all of the victims seem so naive and airheaded. I don't think this film does the victims any justice. This movie does feel more like a slasher than a biography movie. It is not that great, but if you want to feel extremely unsettled by the acts of Ted Bundy, give it a watch. Overall, I give this movie a 5/10.
