This western is as good now as I assume it was back in the 50s when it was released. The story is simple, but still very compelling and engaging. The characters are well-developed and relatable. This film is perhaps John Wayne's best performance in his illustrious career. All of the elements of the story--rescue, love, revenge--combine to form an all-time great film. John Ford directs this film very masterfully, using tactfully used camera shots and jump cuts to create the illusion of violence, without showing anything gruesome. Overall, I give this film a 9/10.
