Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines falls short of it's predecessors glamor. It makes several callbacks to the first two installments through dialogue without giving any memorable original dialogue in return. The acting isn't great, but is good enough for a short sci-fi action flick. The action is big and loud, but not quite as exhilarating as the previous films. It is fun action though. Arnold Schwarzenegger's cyborg character is lacks the emotional resonance that it had in T2. There are moments where the anti-charismatic cyborg is fun to watch, however they are not in abundance. Most of the dialogue is subpar, and the story itself is not very original. The main elements that carry this film are the big action scenes and good CGI. Outside of these aspects, the film is hit and miss in all other aspects. It is enjoyable if you shut down the brain and just want to watch a big explosive cat-mouse chase, but if you want a movie with more substance, watch the first two. This was the first Terminator movie without James Cameron at the helm, and although director Jonathan Mostow does a decent job, the magic of Cameron's work is gone. Overall, I give this film a 5.5/10.
