Ready Player One is visually stunning and well-acted. Steven Spielberg directed this flick tastefully, adding another fresh film to his filmography. I would have liked for this film to dive deeper into how the virtual reality world effects everyday living in the real world. People that were living in the "stacks" played the Oasis game, and when they were done playing, they return to their mundane lives which are still crummy. If Ready Player One took the next step of showing how the VR was integrated into real life, it would have been a bit more impactful. However, this film is still a very fun thrill ride. The main goal for the protagonists in the film is to get the Easter Egg the game's late creator hid within the system. This provides great action and a story of thwarting off corporate overreach. The acting is solid as well. The nostalgia factor is in full-force in this one, whether it be other movies or video games, there is plenty of nostalgic moments to go around. Will this be remembered as an all-time Spielberg great film? No, but it will be a movie video-gamers and cinephiles will enjoy. It is fun and entertaining. Overall, I give this film a 7/10.
