X-Men gets the X-Men franchise off to a very strong start. Made in 2000, the effects still look very good. The film is very brief with a runtime of only 104 minutes. However this does not prevent X-Men from telling a great story. The cast is great with the likes of Ian McKellan, Sir Patrick Stewart, and a young Hugh Jackman. For the most part, the dialogue is sharp and sticks to the point of the film. Some campy lines slip in here and there, but for the most part it is smart. The characters get developed well, however there is some context missing between some of the characters rivalries. This movie has a good message as well, teaching that people need to be accepting of those that are different than themselves. The mixing of political and social themes within the superhero genre adds great depth and thought. It is action packed and the action is well choreographed and entertaining. This is a fun film to revisit every once in a while. X-Men is able to keep it's audience engaged from start to finish. Overall, I give this film an 8/10.
