Raunchy and sweet are usually two words that cannot coexist in a sentence, but when describing "The 40 Year Old Virgin", they do. Steve Carell's first leading role and Judd Apatow's directorial debut could not have gone much better. This film has a lot of humor, although it does get a bit overbearing on the crude, but a lot of the jokes are funny. The titular character, played by Carell, is sympathetic and extremely likable. The supporting cast is very good and deliver a plethora of jokes. Seth Rogen, Paul, Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, and Catherine Keener all fir into their roles perfectly. This film does still have it's problems though. It's runtime is about 15-20 minutes overlong and there is a feeling of forcing the crude sexual jokes a bit too much. Outside of these things, this comedy is solid for a very mature audience. Overall, I give this movie a 7/10.
