Shrek is a great movie. It has humor suitable for audiences of any age. When I was a kid I found it funny, but now as an adult I think I might laugh even more! The voice cast is phenomenal. Mike Meyers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, and Jon Lithgow are all great. They all capitalize on their jokes and also the character's emotions. Not only is this a funny movie, but it is a fun story. The story has common conventions of a fairytale and romantic comedy, it uses both genre's conventions to create a very fresh tale. It has nice animation and some spunky music intertwined to a very unconventional children's movie. At the center of all the gags there is a heart-warming theme of true being on the inside and not our outward appearance. We see the titular character, Shrek the ogre, change from being an anti-social recluse to opening his heart to those who love him for who he is. This was one of my favorites as a kid, and it still is as an adult. Overall, I give this film a 9/10.
