Video game movie adaptations do not translate into good movies very often, if ever. Rampage is it an exception to this rule. It does have great action sequences and visual effects, but the plot as a whole is shallow. There are plot elements in this film that are real head-scratchers. The characters in general are not very well written characters either. They are shallow and the dialogue used to try and deepen them is not much deeper. In essence this film is really trying to get from one action scene to another. Instead of getting deeper with "because" storytelling, it goes along with a simpler, and less complex, style of "and then" storytelling. There are humorous moments sprinkled within the film between Dwayne Johnson's character and the large albino gorilla, George. Jeffrey Dean Morgan has some funny quotes also, but outside of these the film's dialogue is very cliché. Johnson's performance is decent, especially considering the wacky story. This film is enjoyable if you do not think hard about it at all. The more locked away your brain is, the better this movie will seem. Overall, I give this film a 5.5/10.
