"The Matrix" is a mind-bending sci-fi action thriller. It is the highest point in Keanu Reeves career, and he does have a good performance in this film. The Matrix is stylish, smart, and entertaining. The effects still look nice, and the cinematography is slick. The way the camera moves, especially in the fight scenes, adds another element to the action that is sometimes absent in action flicks due to it not being shaky and constantly cutting. It is very well written. The concept of the Matrix is deep and intriguing. This is a science fiction film that is a lot deeper than others of the same thread tend to be. The premises of the film are handled delicately and they transition smoothly. The dialogue is simply, but is still able to explain the film's elements enough to not lose the audience. The only thing that I found unsatisfying were some of the workings of the ending. All the intensity and build-up of the first two hours feels like it doesn't get the finale it really deserves. This is a small qualm I have, but the rest of the movie is near perfection. This movie is intelligent and is able to thoroughly entertain during it's entire runtime. This is a must-see film and it is apparent as to why it is so influential on the sci-fi genre today. Overall, I give this film a 9.5/10.
