"Spider-Man" boasts one of the better origin stories for any superhero film to date. The story is fun and exciting and the action is suspenseful. There may be cheesy moments, but those are to be expected. Tobey Maguire does a great job of being an awkward teen and extraordinary hero. Willem Dafoe single-handedly immortalized the villain, Green Goblin, with his great performance. However, with all the strong acting performances comes a weak one with Kirsten Dunst's portrayal of Mary Jane. Her performance is not the worst ever, but it more often than not comes across as wooden. The action is fantastic and the effects are good also. There are a lot of superhero movie clichés, which can make this film feel generic. Even though the clichés are there, Sam Raimi's direction does a decent job of overcoming these and becoming an above average superhero flick. Overall, I give this movie a 7.5/10.
